"Stone up nose Mommy"

A few weeks ago, I was in meetings in London for work, then meandered my way back the office, making stops along the way. Well, I get back into the office around 4 and the receptionist tells me that Ethan called, looking for the van. Weird I think, there must be an emergency with the boys as there is no other reason that he would need the van. Well, I can him and apparently, Liam has shoved a small stone up his nose. I laugh, I am told that this is not at all funny and I need to take him to the ER. At this point I still think it is funny.

So, as it was on my Mom's watch, she comes with me and the twindom to the ER. The other people in the waiting room think that stone up the nose is funny, and many stories of beans, popcorn and beads up the nose are shared. I still find it funny, as my son's mis-action has brought so many people to relate.

We see the ER doctor, who tries to look up Liams nose, sees nothing and ASKS ME WHAT TO DO. Well, I think doctor lady, that we should get that stone out, don't you? She hums and haws and then agrees to call the nose specialist (yes there is actually a specialist for the nose, one in St. Ratford too!). Well, we go back to the waiting room to while she calls the specialist. 1.5 hours later (The twindom is screaming, hitting and shouting) I ask the nurse what is up. Well, the doctor has left the hospital, we will have to wait. No I say, you can call me at home thanks. Stone up the nose is not that funny any more. By the way nurse, is there any chance that he could choke on the stone? Well maybe she say. Sleepless night ahead, stone up the nose is not at all funny any more.

The $1000 Barn Cat

When Ethan and I moved into our first house, we took in two brother cats from the farm. Very cute, loving and adorable kittens. We thought that two male cats would be cheap and easy, I mean it cost us a case of beer to have them "fixed". Now, they are large, hair shedding, carpet shreading cats.

Monty, always the standoffish one had a few problems about six months ago. Mainly, he was about a half an hour away from having his bladder explode due to cyrtsals. At that time, Ethan and I had to make some tough descisions on how much money we could spend on this cat before it was time to say goodbye. Well, at that time, we went over that limit by about $150.

Then, on Saturday, Monty shows signs of the cystals again, a $200 vet bill later, Monty is still alive and kicking. There is still a chance in the next few days that he could have problems so I have to monitor him very closly. Has any of you ever watched a cat for 24 hours to see how much he has peed? Great fun.

Now, including the damage he has inflicted on the carpets and his vet bills, he has cost us about $1000. So much for the cheap and easy.
